A new housing scheme comprising of 120 homes with a mixture of 3 and 4 bed houses and 1 and 2 bed apartments set along the River Adur in Shoreham. In addition to the houses, there is also a proposed new retail unit, riverfront café, gallery and hotel in a later phase.
The site is set within a disused plot of land with derelict buildings next to the river and close to the town centre. The site is also in a flood plain and bordered by an existing raised railway embankment. The development had to connect into a new environment agency flood defence wall and existing coastal path.
The Café – The riverfront cafe will provide both the new and existing residents with a focal meeting point with river views. An external seating terrace will provide an exciting destination with its direct connections to the river path back into the town centre.
Gallery – Connected to the cafe there will be a proposed gallery or flexible space for passable community use. This space may give the potential for local artists to exhibit their work in a riverside setting. Visitors can wander around exhibitions while enjoying a drink from the cafe.
Retail Unit – The community retail space at the entrance of the scheme will provide a convenience store to the locality as well as providing local employment.
